OUR PLASTIC SCHOOL.
GET TO KNOW
Plastics. It’s everywhere. The common problem that we face in Southeast Asian countries is the lack of school spaces in under-served communities. For example, in the Philippines, 80 students would be learning in a small classroom, squeezed together. Or in a far-west village in Medan, Indonesia the students would not go to school mainly because they do not have a roof over their head to allow them to study when it rains.
Given the plastic waste challenges faced by all Southeast Asian countries, we see the opportunity to create a learning solution that addresses the contents on plastic use that teachers are required to teach with solving a problem of local and regional significance. Instead of focusing on reducing plastic usage, we are proposing a PBL activity that would increase classrooms by upcycling plastic waste. Thus helping students to learn how to deal with plastic waste in an innovative way.
How can we build classrooms by using plastic waste?
